Welcome

Welcome

Welcome to Brynmenyn Primary school's website.

The village is mainly of a 'ribbon type development' extending almost three quarters of a mile along the A4065.

Brynmenyn's ancient name was 'Bryn-y-Meini' meaning 'Hills of Stones'. Another meaning given to its name is 'Bryn-y-Menyn' meaning 'Butter Hill' which refers to the yellow colour of the gorse.

The former explanation is more probable.

Brynmenyn School started as a Council Infants School at Betharan Vestry on 18th October 1909. It transferred to Ynysawdre Parish Hall on 31st October 1910 while the new school was being built.

The old Brynmenyn School opened its door on 13th January 1913 as Brynmenyn Council School Mixed and Infants. Our Nursery opened in September 2007.  The doors closed to the old Brynmenyn School on Friday 9th February 2018 to relocate to a newly built school, next to Coleg Cymunedol y Dderwen.
